Managing your VPS: access, console, reinstall and snapshots

DeutschFrançaisItaliano

Log in as root, use the browser console, reset the root password, take snapshots and reinstall the operating system of your VPS from the control panel.

Your VPS is managed in the control panel. Sign in at beta-manager.thunderhosting.com, open your organization and go to Services, VPS A/C. Click Manage next to the server. This guide explains the tabs of the server page.

Log in as root (Access tab)

The Access tab shows the command to log in, for example ssh root@your-hostname, and the root password (click Show password). To log in without a password, add an SSH key: see Adding SSH keys to your VPS.

  • Reset password sets a new random root password. The VPS restarts to apply it and the old password stops working.
  • If you change the root password inside the server yourself, the password shown in the control panel is no longer up to date.

Power and console

  • Power: Start, Stop or Restart the server.
  • Console: Open console shows the screen of your server in the browser. It works even when SSH does not, for example after a firewall mistake or when the server stops during boot. In new window opens it in a separate tab.

Snapshots

  • Up to 5 snapshots per VPS, free of charge.
  • Create one before updates or risky changes: enter a name and click Create snapshot.
  • Revert replaces the current disk with the snapshot. Everything written after the snapshot is lost.

Snapshots belong to the VPS and are deleted when you reinstall it. Keep an additional backup of important data outside the server.

Reinstall the operating system

  1. Open the Reinstall tab.
  2. Choose the operating system (currently Ubuntu Server 26.04 or 24.04).
  3. Optionally enter a root password (at least 10 characters).
  4. Click Reinstall and confirm. The reinstall takes a few minutes and the page updates by itself.

Reinstalling erases everything on the disk and deletes all snapshots. The IP addresses, hostname, size and the SSH keys of the order stay.

Plan and network

  • Plan & resources: Change plan or size. Upgrades apply right after payment and you only pay the difference for the rest of the period. Downgrades apply at the end of the paid period. Disks never shrink.
  • A VPS cannot switch between the lines A and C. To move, order a new VPS and transfer your data.
  • Network: shows the IPv4 and IPv6 address. The IPv6 address belongs to the server and cannot be moved. Where available, you can add or remove the IPv4 address here.
