SSL certificates with Let's Encrypt
Secure your website with HTTPS: issue a free Let's Encrypt certificate on ThunderHosting web hosting, include www, upload your own certificate and assign it to the site.
Every ThunderHosting web hosting plan includes free SSL certificates from Let's Encrypt, so your site can be reached over HTTPS. A certificate for your main domain (without www) is requested automatically when your hosting is set up and when you change the main domain. If that did not work yet, or you also want www, use the SSL tab of the hosting dashboard.
Before you start
Let's Encrypt checks that your domain really points to your hosting. Finish the DNS setup first: the dashboard should show DNS live for your domain. With ThunderHosting DNS or Smart DNS sync, the validation records are created automatically.
Issue a free Let's Encrypt certificate
- Open the SSL tab of the hosting dashboard.
- Tick Also cover www subdomain if visitors use www.example.com as well.
- Click Issue Let's Encrypt.
- When the certificate is issued, it is listed and HTTPS is enabled for the site.
Use your own certificate
If you bought a certificate elsewhere, click Upload certificate and paste the certificate name, the private key (PEM), the certificate (PEM) and, if you have one, the CA chain. Then click Assign to site to make it the active certificate.
Manage certificates
- The list shows all certificates of the hosting and which one is Active.
- Assign to site switches the active certificate.
- The delete icon removes a certificate you no longer need.
If issuing fails, the most common reason is DNS that does not point to the hosting yet. Check the Domain / DNS tab, wait for the change to spread, then try again.
