Billing, renewals, suspension and cancellation

When ThunderHosting web hosting renewal invoices are issued, how automatic card payments work, what happens if an invoice is unpaid and how to cancel at the end of the period.

Web hosting is a subscription that renews automatically every month or every year until you cancel it. This article explains the billing cycle, what happens with unpaid invoices and how cancellation works. The timings below are our standard settings; the exact dates are always shown on your invoices and in the dashboard.

Renewal invoices

  • A renewal invoice is created 7 days before the end of a monthly period and 30 days before the end of a yearly period.
  • The invoice is due at the end of the current paid period.
  • With a saved card (or another saved payment method), the invoice is charged automatically about one day before it is due.
  • With Swiss QR bank transfer, renewals are not automatic: pay the QR invoice before the due date.

If an invoice is not paid

  • After the due date the subscription is marked as past due.
  • About one day after the due date the hosting is suspended: the website and mail stop working, but your data is kept.
  • As soon as you pay the outstanding invoice, the hosting is reactivated automatically.
  • If the invoice is still unpaid 30 days after the suspension, the subscription is terminated.
  • After termination the webspace stays suspended for 14 days and is then permanently deleted. The dashboard shows the date until which the data is kept.

Cancel your hosting

  1. Open your organization and go to Services.
  2. Next to the web hosting, click Cancellation and confirm.
  • The cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period. You keep full access until then.
  • There is no refund for the current period.
  • An open renewal invoice for the next period is cancelled.
  • Changed your mind? Click Keep subscription before the end date, and the hosting continues and renews as usual. If a renewal invoice is needed, it is created for you to pay.
  • At the end date the hosting is suspended, its data is kept for 14 days and then deleted. Back up your files, databases and mail before that date.

A domain you registered or transferred with us is a separate subscription and renews yearly. Cancel it separately if you no longer need it, or keep it to use it elsewhere.

Invoices and payment methods

You find all invoices of your organization in the customer area, where you can also pay open invoices and manage saved payment methods. Prices are in CHF, or in EUR if your organization uses euros.
