A neutral comparison of three popular ways to talk while playing or working together.

Mumble, TeamSpeak and Discord all let groups talk together, but they work differently: with your own server or a service someone else runs, with open or closed software, with or without accounts. This overview helps you choose.

When Mumble fits

  • You want your own server with open-source software and no accounts for your users.
  • Low latency and good voice quality matter, e.g. for gaming, choirs or radio-style nets.
  • You want full control over channels, rights and data (everything is in one file on your server, included in backups).

When something else fits better

  • You need video or screen sharing: Discord offers it, Mumble does not.
  • Your community already uses TeamSpeak: you can host your own TeamSpeak 3 server files with us, under TeamSpeak's licence.
