Uploading files: File Manager, FTP and SFTP
Upload and manage website files on ThunderHosting web hosting with the Plesk File Manager, FTPS or SFTP, and create additional FTP accounts from the hosting dashboard.
You can manage the files of your website in the browser with the Plesk File Manager, or with an FTP client such as FileZilla or WinSCP.
File Manager in the browser
Click File Manager on the Overview tab, or open the Files tab. The Plesk File Manager opens with single sign-on. You can upload, edit, move and delete files there.
Connect with an FTP client
- Server: the server name shown under Server on the Overview tab, or your domain once DNS points to the hosting.
- User name and password: the main hosting user, or an additional FTP account (see below). Set or reset the main password with Change password on the Overview tab.
- FTPS: FTP with explicit TLS encryption, usually on port 21. Always choose an encrypted connection in your client.
- SFTP: usually on port 22, available for the main hosting user when SSH/SFTP access is enabled for your subscription. Additional FTP accounts connect with FTPS.
If your client cannot connect, contact support with the server name and the error message. We can confirm the correct ports and access type for your hosting.
Additional FTP accounts
On the FTP tab you can create extra FTP accounts, for example for a web designer, limited to a folder of your choice.
- Open the FTP tab and click Create FTP account.
- Enter the FTP login: it must start with a lowercase letter, have at most 16 characters and use only a-z, 0-9, _ and -.
- Set a password and choose the home directory (the folder the account can access).
Next to each account you can change the FTP password or delete the account.
Where to put your website
The files of your main domain belong in its document root folder, normally httpdocs. Uploading an index.html or index.php there makes it the start page of your site.
